GOTS

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) was established by four esteemed organizations: the Organic Trade Association (OTA, USA), Internationaler Verband der Naturtextilwirtschaft (IVN, Germany), The Soil Association (UK), and Japan Organic Cotton Association (JOCA, Japan). IVN and JOCA are textile industry organizations, while OTA and The Soil Association focus on organic agriculture and food. Together, they bring extensive experience in promoting organic practices and had individually developed standards for organic textiles. GOTS was created to harmonize these standards for international recognition.

Our mission is to develop, implement, verify, protect, and promote GOTS. This comprehensive standard sets requirements throughout the supply chain for both ecological and labor conditions in textile and apparel manufacturing using organically produced raw materials. Organic production under GOTS maintains and replenishes soil fertility without toxic pesticides or synthetic fertilizers, includes animal welfare standards, and prohibits genetically modified organisms. GOTS continuously updates its standards with input from international stakeholders and experts to ensure the highest quality and sustainability in organic textiles.

Textile Exchange

From the clothes we wear to the fabrics in our homes, fashion and textiles are integral to our daily lives. At Textile Exchange, our mission is to ensure that the materials used in these products are produced sustainably, supporting our planet, its ecosystems, and its communities.

The familiar fibers and raw materials in the fashion and textile industry, including cotton, wool, viscose, and polyester, originate from farming, forests, or fossil fuels. These sources are crucial in the battle to limit global warming and mitigate climate change's most severe impacts.

Our focus is on Tier 4 of the supply chain—how these resources are farmed, sourced, and extracted. This stage alone accounts for 24% of the industry's carbon footprint. Our ambitious goal is to reduce emissions from these processes by 45% by 2030 through our Climate+ strategy.

We envision a global fashion and textile industry that gives back more than it takes, positively impacting the lands and communities that sustain it, while enhancing soil health, water quality, and biodiversity. Join us in creating a sustainable future for fashion and textiles.
